The Department of Social Work at the University of Mississippi has launched a program to work with the community in preservation and development efforts. These community functions range from economy to socialization, social control, social participation, and mutual support. With committed leaders and a clear vision of where the community wants and needs to be, Community Empowerment and Reinvestment (CED) can move communities forward in a comprehensive way. The EOHED Urban Agenda Program serves as a model for the CED Grant Program.
This program seeks proposals for projects and programs located in eligible communities that involve community-driven responses to community-defined economic opportunities. These projects should promote leadership, collaboration, and capacity at the local level. Community development is about people planning to change a specific situation in their communities. When properly implemented, Community Economic Development (CED) has the potential to help communities remain competitive and adapt to a complex and dynamic situation.
CED can provide resources for job creation, business development, housing, infrastructure, and other services that can improve the quality of life for residents.
