Funding Sources for Community Empowerment Programs in Mississippi

The Magnolia State is a source of vitality and potential for community development. To help create or expand industries that process wood products, the Mississippi Development Authority offers a range of financial and other programs. The Community Heritage Preservation Grant Program, funded by the Mississippi Legislature, helps preserve and restore historic courthouses and schools in certified local government communities. The Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (EOHED) has also launched the Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant Program.

This program provides flexible grants to support local associations and encourages community-driven responses to economic opportunities. It promotes leadership, collaboration, and capacity building at the local level. The Revolving Loan Program (CAP) is another funding source for capital improvements in Mississippi. The Block Grants for Community Development (CDBG) are also available for eligible buildings other than courthouses and schools, as long as they are Mississippi monuments.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission may require beneficiaries to request and obtain technical assistance from them. The Mississippi Economic and Community Development Authority may also hire licensed real estate brokers and appraisers necessary for industrial development of any property under their ownership or control.
