The USDA Department of Rural Development is committed to promoting rural prosperity in Mississippi. We provide eligible residents with access to affordable housing, and we partner with communities to build or improve essential facilities, such as hospitals, libraries and schools. We also fund technical assistance for small business owners and entrepreneurs, helping them to design solid business plans, find new markets and promote their goods and services. Additionally, we support energy programs that fund renewable systems for agriculture and industry.
United Way of South Mississippi is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Southern Mississippi by focusing on creating measurable outcomes in the areas of education, health and financial stability. The Diversity and Community Participation Division supports the mission of UM by transforming people, institutions and communities through partnership, access and participation that encourage belonging, enrich learning and development, improve research and create equitable opportunities for all. The Tufts Comprehensive Community Health Action Program was first proposed in 1965 to intervene in the cycle of extreme poverty, ill health, unemployment and illiteracy by providing preventive, curative and health education programs, while organizing community health associations. The Global Community Services Grant (CSBG) is funded through the Office of Community Services of the Department of Health and Human Services, which provides funding through the Community Services Division of the Mississippi Department of Human Services to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in communities.
